Weeds grow where they want to; not where they're told to...
The Broken Column
(after the painting by
Frida Kahlo, 1944)
You can see
That I am trapped
A woman
Corseted and nailed
Not quite the Christ
A man
Who would arise
And rule
My life
My shattered spine
But he does not
I rule
The column split
In two
But I am whole.
Blue Nude with Hair in the Wind
(after the cut-out by
Henri Mattise, 1952)
She danced seductively
In Paris halls
Now a cut-out paper doll
Mere memories
In blue
Is all that she can be
And all that he can ever know.
